Bike Brno fair not to take place this year;
traditional SPORT Life fair to expand its range of sports activities

The company BVV Trade Fairs Brno, in agreement with exhibitors and partners, made a decision to cancel the Bike Brno cycling fair, which was scheduled for 7 to 10 November 2013. The concurrently held SPORT Life fair will expand its supporting programme with cycling. Two additional concurrent fairs – Caravaning Brno and Dance Life Expo – will be held unchanged.

The reason for the decision to cancel the Bike Brno trade fair was the gradual development of the situation in the bicycle market, which significantly affected the companies' needs in the field of trade and marketing. Changes in the ordering system for new bicycle models in the upcoming cycling season, market oversupply and new distribution channels led the companies to fragmentation of their opinions regarding the date of the fair, the nature of the event and their own presentation.

"We do not intend to slide down to the level of a mere sales exhibition attended by local retailers, as is the case of certain events on the theme of cycling. A trade fair should demonstrate future trends in the sector, which is a task that a sales exhibition can hardly fulfil", said Jiří Kuliš, CEO of BVV Trade Fairs Brno.

Co-organizer and founder of the event Karel Stárek commented on the decision to cancel the fair: "Cycling is a mass sport, very popular in the Czech Republic. All the more so we regret that despite numerous negotiations with key bicycle companies, we cannot offer cycling fans a comprehensive exhibition of the best brands and innovations in this sector. The difficult economic situation results in people cutting their spending, which consequently led to a decline in sales of bicycles in the countries of the entire EU."

Cycling as a theme, however, will not disappear from the Brno Exhibition Centre. Supporting events such as the Bike Trial Championship of the Czech Republic, BMX&MTB Freestyle Show or Bike Conference will be part of the SPORT Life fair, which showcases many sports disciplines and is a venue for the presentation of new sportswear and equipment. "We have not given up the Bike Brno fair. I am confident that the bicycle market will recover and in the future, we will be able to continue to promote Bike Brno at a level that everyone has been accustomed to so far," added Mr. Kuliš.
