New awards for exhibits supporting soil water retention
As in the previous years, the GRAND PRIX TECHAGRO, SILVA REGINA and BIOMASS contest will be part of the Brno agricultural and forestry fairs, where an expert jury will select the best entered exhibits and hand awards to them, which the exhibitors will receive at a gala evening on the first day of the fair. The GRAND PRIX contest saw a major innovation for this year's season, prepared by Trade Fairs Brno. In fact, the exhibits entered to the GRAND PRIX contest may moreover apply for a SOIL WATER RETENTION FRIENDLY plaque that confirms the beneficial effects of a machine or technology on soil properties, leading to an improvement in the retention function of the soil.
This expansion of the competition is a response both to the ever-deteriorating soil characteristics not only in the Czech Republic, but also to the global climate change and hence resulting changes in the distribution of rainfall precipitations. These changes are manifested among others in longer periods of drought and more frequent occurrences of torrential precipitation. Soil that is able to retain as much water as possible may help mitigate these consequences. That is why the SOIL WATER RETENTION FRIENDLY plaque award has been included in the GRAND PRIX contest to help highlight machines and technologies improving retention properties of the soil.
