Czech agro-industry compares favourably with the world's best
The quality of Czech agricultural machinery and equipment is also proved by international trade which is picking up again following the years of crisis between 2009 and 2010, when it dropped by ca. 30 % compared to the previous period. In 2011, the foreign trade revived and this trend has continued in the following years.
“The volume of agricultural machinery production and equipment cannot be successfully predicted too much in advance - the willingness of the farmers to make investments in new equipment depends on a number of factors including government and EU grants as well as regulation and pressures exercised by chain stores,” explains the director of the Agricultural and Forestry Machinery Association A.ZeT secretariat, Dušan Benža. Nevertheless, the shift away from the crisis is apparent.
For example, the gradual rise in combine harvester sales in the Czech Republic experienced between 2000 - 2008 has not yet reached the value before the economic crisis - in 2007, a total of 231 pc were sold, a year later it was 284 pcs, in 2012 a total of 196 pcs (the largest number after the crisis) and the two past years have experienced even lower numbers (175 and 166 pcs respectively). However, this year looks more promising as compared to the period of January to August, six more combine harvesters have been sold.
From soil cultivation machinery to trailers and loaders
The range of agricultural machinery production in the CR is very broad. Leading exporters include FARMET from Česká Skalice in Náchod, BEDNAR FMT Praha, OPaLL Agri Dolní Životice and SMS CZ Rokycany producing soil cultivation machinery; this commodity (cultivators, compactors, harrows) is the most common exported item. AGRIO MZS Křemže is winning recognition with its sprinklers, ZDT Nové Veselí successfully exports trailers and semitrailers. Other items exported by Czech firms include reaping machines, front-end loaders, manure spreaders, a whole spectrum of small-size agricultural mechanisms including tools, the manufacture of special equipment such as tree stump cutters or refineries processing oilseeds is also a success. Stable technologies are the specialisation of FARMTEC Jistebnice, BAUER TECHNICS Tábor and AGE České Meziříčí. We must also mention tractor manufacturer ZETOR TRACTORS.
Top class European trade fairs: SIMA, AGRITECHNICA and TECHAGRO
All leading Czech manufacturers, as well as distributors and international brand producers can be found on a regular basis at large trade fairs. One of them, ranking alongside SIMA in Paris and AGRITECHNICA in Hannover is TECHAGRO in Brno, whose 14th edition will take place between 3rd – 7th April 2016. “Last edition in 2014 was attended by 743 exhibitors from 41 countries, the exhibition space covered 83,707 square meters and the trade fair was visited by close to 120,000 people,” says the trade fair manager, Jan Kuběna, from BVV Trade Fairs Brno.
High proficiency of the TECHAGRO fair is guaranteed by the fact that it is promoted and co-organised by the representatives of agricultural equipment manufacturers joined in the Agricultural And Forestry Machinery Association A.ZeT. Ten out of 45 members of A.ZeT will have their separate exhibition stands at AGRITECHNICA in Hannover, others will be represented at the joined stand of A.ZeT. The total production of the member firms is around 18 billion CZK (ca. 700 mil. EUR), which is 75 % of the total production in the CR. Of the total Czech export of 15.2 billion crowns (ca 552 mil. EUR), the share of A.ZeT members amounted to over 80 %.
