Brief characteristics of the exhibit
The Barrel Bore eXplorer (BBX) robotic device is designed to inspect military barrel bores with diameters from 105 mm to 155 mm. The BBX automatically moves inside the barrel and scans the image information and the inner wall profile of the barrel (using a laser). All of this data is continuously composed into an overall image. The associated software can display this data (in 2D and 3D), automatically evaluate it, i.e. it finds all the damages (including the expansion gas vent holes), evaluates their extent and depth, and generates a final report with the determination of the suitability of further use mainly for firing. The user can intervene at any time throughout the process.
