After last year's break due to the pandemic, the Brno Exhibition Centre once again hosted the largest Central European fair of industrial technologies. MSV 2021 took place at an unusual November period and to a limited extent but maintained its quality and once again demonstrated the most advanced technologies and phenomena that are changing industrial practices – intelligent robotics, Internet of Things, 3D printing, corporate data systems and management by means of artificial intelligence. In the five days of the fair, stands of 1,016 exhibiting companies from 35 countries were viewed by more than 35 thousand visitors.

"This time, MSV gears did not fit together as usual. Despite a number of obstacles and adverse circumstances, we managed to prepare the largest engineering trade fair event in the region of Central Europe this year. I believe that the next engineering fair will already take place in standard conditions and to a standard extent," assessed the 62nd MSV Mr. Jiří Kuliš, CEO of Trade Fairs Brno.

Despite complicated conditions at MSV, VIP guests from distant countries arrived too

Japan and Indonesia presented themselves for the first time at MSV. An Indonesian government and trade delegation. Joint official displays under the auspices of government or pro-export institutions were also opened at MSV 2021 by Taiwan, Austria, Poland, France, and Slovakia. The fair was also attended by ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps.

Representatives of the Czech government were also among the VIP guests of the fair. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry, Trade and Transport Karel Havlíček and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jakub Kulhánek discussed with entrepreneurs at the stands and at the Assembly of the Confederation of Industry and Transport. Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch answered questions about the development of the pandemic and the impending lockdown.

Czech National Exposition revisited

Two years ago, the Czech National Exposition premiered at MSV with the motto Czech Republic: The Country for The Future. This year, the exposition roofing state services to entrepreneurs opened again at the fair. Experts from 14 state organizations related to industry or export promotion were present at the stand for the whole 5 days: Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Transport, CzechInvest and CzechTrade agencies, Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation, Czech Export Bank, National Development Bank, Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, Czech Development Agency, Industrial Property Office, Agency for Business and Innovation and the Engineering Test Institute. The Czech National Exposition offered services and state assistance to companies in every business life cycle, from support for start-ups and business incubators through export assistance, export financing and insurance to intellectual property protection, testing and certification. The exposition also hosted an interesting sideline programme, including a meeting of entrepreneurs with the directors of CzechTrade's foreign offices of – Meeting Point CzechTrade 2021.

Digital Factory 2.0 and specialized sideline programme

Digitization was the main topic of the season, resonating throughout the fair; solutions focused on the industry of the future were available for viewing around the entire premises. The pandemic has shown us all that digitization is an absolute must, and the expo has shifted this topic to an even higher level two years on. Work with internal and external data is essential for the digital transformation of industry, and the Digital Factory 2.0 exhibition in Hall F focused on this particular issue. Siemens, as the project's Golden Partner, and another twenty digital technology companies demonstrated how the individual components of a digital factory work in practice.

Tens of events took place as part of the specialized sideline programme – conferences, workshops, seminars, and panel discussions. Great attention was paid to the conference "Czech Republic – an Industrial Superpower 2028?", Which addressed the second technological transformation of the Czech economy. The Additive Manufacturing Forum 2021 had a traditionally high attendance, while the three-day B2B project Contact-Contract, the Meeting of the Czech-Indonesian Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, or the Czech-Indonesian Business Forum and B2B also took place.

Transport and Logistics and ENVITECH fairs

The 10th Transport and Logistics trade fair showed that transport and logistics companies are also preparing intensively for the requirements of the digital industry. A project called Packaging Live demonstrated an example of a robotically controlled packaging line. One of the exhibitors was also the Department for Transport of the United Kingdom, which informed Czech companies about the upcoming changes in transport related to Brexit. The ENVITECH International Fair for Environmental Protection Technologies with a highlighted topic of circular economy also took place concurrently.

Gold medals MSV 2021 for six innovative exhibits

The best exhibits once again competed for the prestigious MSV Gold Medals. An expert evaluation committee awarded six main prizes to innovative exhibits plus a Gold Medal for lifelong creative technical work and innovative achievements – this was handed to Professor Štefan Kassay.

The Gold Medal in the Production Machine Innovation category was awarded to Slovácké strojírny for its BUD 100/7000 MULTI multifunctional cylindrical grinder.   In the category of Innovation in Automation Technology and Industry 4.0 the award went to Misan for its Okuma Armroid exhibit. Stoba & Optisolutions with the AI-Inspector.one exhibit also received awards in the same category. In the Innovation of Components in Mechanical Engineering category, the winner was 4dot Mechatronic Systems for its 4dot SM transformation sensor. The winner in the Innovation in Transport and Logistics category was Beckhoff Automation with its XPlanar exhibit. According to the jury, the best innovation in processing technology was the CaviPlasma equipment for disinfection and treatment of liquids, which was displayed by the Brno University of Technology – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The 63rd International Engineering Fair will take place concurrently with the IMT, PLASTEX, FOND-EX, WELDING and PROFINTECH trade fairs from 3 to 7 October 2022.
