STOL Cruiser aircraft combines short take-offs and standard cruising speed
The Czech Technical
University together with Direct Fly, s.r.o., will offer STOL Cruiser, a
new type of ultralight aircraft suitable for takeoffs and landings at shorter
distances. The aircraft has a new profile to minimize air resistance in
cruising mode and at the same time enhanced upward lift mechanization for short
landings. Its production is also innovative – it uses a so-called matchhole.
The technological preparation was conducted by the company Direct Fly. The ‘matchhole’ consists in milling the rivet holes directly into the sheet metal.
The STOL aircraft is an all-metal upper-wing aircraft with a semi-shell construction and a self-supporting wing. In order to achieve the lowest possible fall speed, the wing is equipped with a Flowler flap and a SLOT on the leading edge.
The aircraft is expected to be manufactured to order and about 12 planes will be produced every year. Pilots will most often use the short take-off and landing area in Alaska, South America, Australia or Africa.
