Czechoslovak Legionnaires

Legiotrain
The Legiotrain project commemorates centennial anniversary of Czechoslovak Legionnaires, who fought alongside allied forces on all major theatres of the Great War with the aim of a new and independent state of Czechoslovakia being formed. The Legiotrain is currently trailing through Czechia and is a replica of a kind the legionnaires used. The Legiotrain came to existence mainly due to support received from the Ministry of Defense and other organizations. Out of 13 carriages, there would be 3 temporarily stationed at IDET, specifically: Tailor’s workshop, Black smith’s workshop and a Traveling Post Office carriage. The staff present will guide visitors through the exhibition and provided there’s an interest, search into a family history for a member of Legionnaires corps, could be also performed.

Traveling Post Office Carriage
Only thanks to Traveling Post Office carriages used on the Trans-Siberian Railway Route, could be mail delivered also to Czechoslovak Legionnaires (1918–1920). The Independent Field Post Office begun its operations 16th September 1918 on the route: Chelyabinsk – Samara – Ufa – Syzran and was at a later stage extended all the way to Vladivostok. Czechoslovaks Field Post Office provided postal services also to other allied forces present at the time in Russia. It set at the time world record at the distance covered by Traveling Post Office Carriages, as postal services were maintained on the 4 300 mile long route. It took 10-14 days to deliver the post, provided carriages didn’t have to be exchanged and personnel replaced.
