XXVI Assembly of the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic had its meeting at the Brno Exhibition Centre
In Rotunda of Hall A, over 150 delegates from the district and regional chambers met to evaluate the work of the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic and the development of Czech agriculture in the past year and to discuss current challenges, including the reform of the EU Common Agricultural Policy after 2020.
Among guests to the XXVI Assembly of the Agrarian Chamber is the Minister of Agriculture Jiří Milek and his deputies Pavel Sekáč and Pavel Veleba, Senator Jan Veleba, Deputy Margita Balaštíková, the Chairman of the Slovak Agriculture and Food Chamber Milan Semančík and other important personalities.
At the beginning, the guests were welcomed by the CEO of Trade Fairs Brno, Jiří Kuliš, who appreciated the decision of the Board of the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic to hold the assembly on the occasion of the TECHAGRO trade fair, and reminded of this year's 90th anniversary of founding the Brno Exhibition Centre. A report evaluating the past period was then presented by President of the Agrarian Chamber Zdeněk Jandejsek, who emphasized intensive negotiations at European Union level, whether with MEPs, COPA-COGECA committee members or partner organizations.
The delegates will discuss the draft resolution, which among others calls on the Government of the Czech Republic to address lack of food self-sufficiency and the calamity situation in Czech forests. The proposed resolution also calls on the Minister of Agriculture to continue to promote the national interests of the Czech Republic in the reform of the EU Common Agricultural Policy after 2020. These interests include, in particular, the rejection of the capping of payments, the unification of the level of national subsidies and increased support for sensitive commodities.
The Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic brings together the majority of entrepreneurs in agriculture, forestry and food industry. Its members work on nearly 1.7 million hectares of agricultural land and 1.3 million hectares of forest land. Among its 2759 members there are 2365 agricultural organizations, of which 1211 are privately working farmers.
